Cusco General Information

There are few places in the world like Cuzco, and visiting it is the experience for a lifetime. The natural beauty of Cuzco, with its mountains and blue sky, and its rich history are all things that make Cuzco a good place to visit. There are many places worth visiting, such as Inca streets and temples, the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, museums, Qoricancha, handicraft markets, and much more. Near Cuzco you can also visit numerous Inca ruins such as Saqsaywaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, Piquillacta, Pisaq and Tipon.

Machu Picchu is one of the most interesting ruins in the world, and is the most visited place in Peru and the third most visited anywhere in the world. It is located 129 kilometers northwest of Cusco. To get to Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes, from where there are 2 ways to get to Machu Picchu. 1 way is by bus, which takes 20 minutes, and the other is a tour there that takes 1 ½ hours. For the most adventurous people, we recommend the Inca Trail that lasts 4 days and 3 nights, although there are shorter routes too (Inca Trail 2 Days 1 Night).

How to get to Cusco

One can travel to Cuzco by air from Lima or Arequipa, Lima flights last approximately 1 hour, and Arequipa flights are about 30 minutes away. It is possible to travel to Cuzco by train from Puno, and the trip is approximately 10 hours. How much does it cost to visit places in Cuzco?

Taxis are available in Cuzco, and depending on where you are going, street taxis cost between 3 and 15 soles. Taxis that work with an affiliated company cost more but are more formal.
